Buried in the sand much of the day, this wrasse dives headfirst into the bottom at the first sign of trouble. Juveniles work reef edges over sand and rubble in shallow coastal water, while adults gather in small loose groups along sand ridges on deeper outer reefs no more than about ten metres down.
