Spiny Rock Oyster

Saccostrea echinata

Spiny Rock Oyster

This rock oyster cements itself to pier pilings, rocks and coastal hard surfaces, common across intertidal shores. It even settles onto mariculture cages as part of the fouling community, filtering plankton from the water through its rough spiny shell.
