A large sea cucumber of inner reef flats, lagoons and seagrass beds, the golden sandfish lies on sand and muddy sand mostly in the top ten metres. It hauls a ring of tentacles through the sediment to sift out organic scraps, and burying itself at set times of day. Heavily harvested for the seafood trade, it is now endangered, though harmless to divers.
