An octopus of sandy bottoms down to about fifty metres, it digs deep lairs under coral heads and rubble and is most active at dawn and dusk. It rings its den with cast off gastropod shells, perhaps gathered for the hermit crabs hiding inside, and its mantle alone reaches about ten centimetres.
