Umbrella Crab

Cryptolithodes sitchensis

Umbrella Crab

Its broad flared carapace spreads out like a parasol over the legs, hiding them completely from above. The umbrella crab sits among coralline algae on rocks from the low tide line down to about fifteen metres, where the encrusting pink algae match its colours.
