The yellowpatch razorfish lives over sand and mud banks at the edges of reef flats, mostly between about seven and 15 metres, and dives headfirst into the sand to sleep or to escape danger. It often shares ground with related razorfishes but grows larger, the biggest males reaching about 26 centimetres.
