A guitar shaped ray of warm inshore and offshore waters, the Thouin ray reaches about three metres and feeds on large shellfish over soft bottoms. It bears live young, and its high value meat and fins make it a target wherever it occurs, leaving it Critically Endangered. Much of its biology is still poorly understood.
