This little ponyfish hangs close to the bottom in coastal waters between twenty and fifty metres. It feeds on a wide mix of prey, taking small fish, crustaceans, worms, and bivalves. Like its relatives it has a deep silvery body and can shoot its mouth forward into a downward tube to grab food.
