Imbricate Oyster

Hyotissa inermis

Imbricate Oyster

A heavy walled oyster of rocky tropical bottoms, the imbricate oyster cements itself in place from the intertidal down to around a hundred metres. Its overlapping, flaky shell builds up among dead shell and coral, and like all oysters it strains plankton from the water.
