A large whipray reaching well over a metre across, it cruises mangrove channels, lagoons and sand flats down to about eighty five metres, feeding on small fishes, crustaceans and buried prey. Its whip like tail carries a venomous barb, and bottom net and trawl fisheries have pushed it to Endangered.
