Burrowing through the soft mud of estuaries, mangrove swamps, and coastal lagoons, this small marsh clam filters food from sediment and brackish water. Like other marsh clams it copes with the wide swings in salinity that come with the tides, and it stays buried out of sight rather than fixed to any hard surface.
