A friend added me to their dive

Their invitation waits in Incoming with three answers, and nothing joins your logbook until you pick one.

When another diver logs a dive and names you on it, that's a question rather than a record filed for you. The invitation waits in Incoming, and nothing joins your logbook until you answer it.

You'll find it at Divemates → Dives → Incoming, the tray button at the top of the tab. Tap the row with their name on it and you get three answers.

Link it to a dive you already logged

Usually you logged that dive yourself, and this is the answer you want. Your own dives from around the same day are listed under Link to a Dive You Logged, closest in time first, so tap the one that's the same dive.

Linking ties the two records together and rewrites none of your numbers: not your depth, not your gas, not a word of your notes. It does name them as a buddy on your dive, since you just agreed you were in the water together.

Note: a candidate warning you that linking joins both groups means that dive of yours is already shared with another diver. Everyone's records join up, and that isn't undoable.

Add as a new dive

Add as a New Dive opens the logging flow with the circumstances already filled in: the site, the date and time, and how you got in. Your depth, duration, gas, weights, notes and what you saw stay empty, because those are yours to log rather than theirs to state.

Saving that dive accepts the invitation and names them as a buddy on it, the same way linking does. Back out without saving and the invitation is still waiting in Incoming.

Dismiss it

Weren't on this dive? Dismiss, at the bottom of the invitation, turns it down. You can also swipe the row in Incoming.

Dismissing is quiet. They're never told, and no reminder follows. It's final too, so if you dismiss one by mistake, just log the dive yourself instead of waiting to be asked again.

Their dive still names you whatever you choose. That's their record of who they were in the water with, and it stays theirs.

Note: an invitation sits there until you answer it, and nobody is told whether you've opened it. Take the week.

Who can add you to a dive

That follows Dive Log Visibility, at Divemates → Settings → Privacy:

• Public, and any diver who can find you on Divemates can name you.
• Friends, and only the divers in your Friends list can.
• Private, and nobody new can.

One thing runs through all three: a diver you've already shared a dive with here can always name you on another one. You've been in the water together, so hiding at that point helps nobody.
