Connecting your Suunto account

Link Suunto once and new dives come across on their own. Here's the setup, and what to do when it stops.

Connecting takes one trip through Suunto's own sign in page, and after that every new dive that reaches Suunto comes across on its own and waits for you in Incoming. Divemates links to your Suunto account rather than to the watch, so there's nothing to pair and no cable.

Connecting

  1. Go to Divemates → Dives → Incoming → Bring Dives In.
  2. Tap Suunto. Your browser opens Suunto's own sign in and consent page.
  3. Sign in, approve, and you land back in Divemates with the connection made.

You approve on Suunto's site, so we never see your Suunto password. The link that starts the flow works once and doesn't stay valid long, so if you get distracted halfway, just start again from Bring Dives In.

What syncs, and what doesn't

Once you're connected:

  • new dives arrive as Suunto receives them, including ones still sitting on your watch waiting to sync
  • runs, rides and swims stay where they are, we only take dives
  • a dive you added by hand in Suunto has no recording behind it, so it doesn't come across
  • dives already uploaded to Suunto before you connected don't come across either

There's no schedule and nothing to pull. Suunto tells us the moment a dive lands in your account, and it turns up in Incoming for you to review. See "What's waiting in Incoming?".

For the dives that were already in Suunto, export them and upload the file. See "Bringing dives from another app".

Disconnecting

Go back to Divemates → Dives → Incoming → Bring Dives In and find Suunto under Connected. Swipe the row on iPhone, or press and hold it on Android, then choose Disconnect.

New dives stop arriving. Everything already imported stays in your logbook, untouched.

"That Suunto account is already in use"

One Suunto account feeds one Divemates account. If you connected it to a different Divemates login before, disconnect it there first, then connect it here.

"Suunto sync stopped"

Access can end on Suunto's side on its own: it expires, or it gets revoked. Nothing in the app looks wrong when that happens. Dives just quietly stop arriving, and you'd find out weeks later through a hole in your logbook.

So we tell you, and it's one of the few messages you can't switch off. It isn't us being chatty, it's the only signal that something you set up has stopped working.

The fix is to connect again. Open Bring Dives In, where the Suunto row says access has ended, and tap Reconnect Suunto. Dives start flowing again from that point.
