Deleting your account

Ask in the app or on the web, then confirm through an emailed link. Here's what goes and what stays.

Deleting your account takes two steps: you ask, then you confirm through a link we email you. Nothing changes until you open that link, so asking is safe, and you can call it off right up to the last button.

How to start it

In the app: Divemates → Settings → Account & Data → Delete Account, then Send Confirmation Email.

On the web: go to divemates.app/account/delete and enter the email your account uses. That page shows the same message whichever address you type, so if nothing turns up, check you used the one you sign in with.

Either way, the same email arrives. The link is good for about a day and works once. Open it, type "delete" where it asks, and press Delete my account. That press is the point of no return.

Changed your mind before then? Ignore the email, or tap Cancel Deletion Request in Divemates → Settings → Account & Data.

What gets removed

When you confirm:

  • your profile: name, username, photo and bio
  • your friend connections, in both directions, and any invites you sent
  • your diver card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet
  • the original files you uploaded when importing a logbook
  • your sign-in, so the account is closed and won't let you back in

What stays, and why

Your dives, the marine life you logged and any reviews you wrote stay in Divemates. Your profile is emptied, so there's no name or photo left for them to show, and with your friend connections gone they drop out of everyone's feed.

We keep them because they feed the counts on dive sites, dive shops and species pages. Yanking them out would quietly move numbers other divers are reading.

Take your logbook with you first

There's no copy waiting for you afterward, so download your dives before you confirm. That lives on the web: sign in and go to Divemates → Dashboard → My Diving → Dives, then use the download button above the table to save a CSV.

Can it be undone?

Not on your own. Canceling a pending request is one tap, but once you press Delete my account there's no self-serve way back in.

If you only want off a particular phone, Sign Out sits at the top of that same Account & Data screen and leaves everything exactly as it is.
