My dives aren't syncing
A dive lives on the phone you logged it on until it goes up. Here's how to get it moving.
Every dive is saved to the device you logged it on first, then sent up when it can be. Until that happens it exists only on that device, so when a dive is missing somewhere else, the device you logged it on is the place to look.
Is it still waiting?
Open your logbook on that device and find the dive. A small circular-arrows icon next to the date means it's saved but hasn't gone up yet. Nothing is lost, it just hasn't traveled.
Divemates keeps trying on its own. Opening the app, coming back to it, and signing in each prompt another attempt, so once you're properly online, switch away from the logbook and come back, and the icon should clear.
Note: don't delete and reinstall Divemates while dives are still waiting. A dive that hasn't gone up exists only on that phone, and removing the app takes it with it.
An exclamation mark instead
That means we couldn't accept the dive as it stands, usually because something it points at, a dive site or a species, is no longer there. It won't retry on its own. Open the dive, edit it, and save again to put it back in the queue.
Check both devices are on the same account
Your logbook belongs to your account, so a dive logged under one email will never appear under another. It's an easy thing to do with two addresses in play.
On each device, open Divemates → Settings → Account & Data. The line under the sign-out button tells you which address you're using. Sign back in with the right one and the whole logbook comes down.
Nothing waiting, still missing
A few things that look like a sync problem and aren't:
- A dive that arrived from an import or a connected account is waiting on your decision, not on the network. See "What's waiting in Incoming?".
- A dive with no date sits at the end of your logbook whichever way you sort, so check the bottom of the list before assuming it's gone.
- Your logbook on the web is at Divemates → Dashboard → My Diving → Dives, reading the same account. It's a quick second opinion on what actually made it up.
When to tell us
If a dive still shows the circular arrows after you've reopened the app somewhere with a solid connection, or a dive you'd already seen on two devices disappears from one, that's ours to look at. Tell us which dive and which device, and we'll dig in.
