Editing or deleting a dive

The pencil on a dive edits it and a long press in your logbook deletes it. Here's what each one changes.

Open the dive and tap the pencil, down in the row of actions next to Share. To get rid of a dive instead, press and hold it in your logbook and choose Delete.

Editing a dive

The pencil reopens the same form you logged the dive in, already filled in, so the date, site, depth, duration, cylinders, buddies, marine life and your notes are all still yours to change. Tap Save Changes when you're done.

Only the diver who logged a dive can edit it, so a friend's dive has no pencil.

Note: an edit keeps the dive's original time zone. Fixing a depth on a Red Sea dive from your sofa at home won't quietly move it to another hour or another day.

Deleting a dive

Press and hold the dive in your logbook (Divemates → Dives), choose Delete, and confirm. It goes from every device you're signed in on.

There's no trash and no undo. If something on a dive is simply wrong, edit it rather than deleting it.

What changes elsewhere

  • Your Passport and the dive count on your diver card catch up on their own, after an edit and after a delete.
  • Air consumption is worked out fresh from what you saved. See "Why is there no air consumption?".
  • Dive numbers reshuffle when you change a date or delete a dive, since a number is just a dive's place in date order. See "Where does my dive count start?".

Buddies are the one part of an edit that isn't purely yours. Adding someone sends them an invitation, and removing someone who hasn't answered yet quietly withdraws it. Someone who already accepted stays on the dive, because they now have a dive of their own, and nothing you do reaches into another diver's logbook.

What deleting doesn't undo

  • A buddy who accepted keeps their own record of the dive. Yours going away doesn't touch theirs.
  • Share cards are pictures, so anything you already sent stays exactly as you sent it.
  • A dive site you submitted while logging stays with us for review.

With no signal

Editing works offline. The change is saved on your phone and sent the next time you have a connection, the same as logging a dive does. See "Can I log dives without a signal?".

Deleting is the exception. A dive that has already synced needs a connection to delete, so you'll see an error until you have one. A dive that hasn't reached us yet goes away right there.
