Searching by a site or shop code

EG-BLU is a dive site's code. Type it, or any part of it, and search goes straight there.

Every dive site and dive shop in Divemates has a short code. EG-BLU is the Blue Hole in Dahab. Type the code into search, or just a piece of it, and you land on the right place without spelling out a name that has four spellings and two languages.

What a code is made of

Two letters for the country, then a short mnemonic from the name. EG plus BLU. It works the way an airport code does: short enough to remember, specific enough that only one place answers to it.

A code is issued once and stays with the site forever, so it's safe to write on a slate or send to someone who'll look it up next week.

Searching for one

Open search from the tab bar: Divemates → Discover → Search. Capitals don't matter, and any part of a code works, not just the beginning.

• EG-BLU brings up that exact site first
• EG leads with Egypt's sites
• BLU finds EG-BLU, along with every other code containing BLU

Codes are matched alongside names, never instead of them, so a search is never worse for typing one. Dive shops have codes in the same shape and behave the same way.

The site picker inside the dive log searches the same catalog, so a code works there too.

Note: if a code you were given finds nothing, the site probably isn't in our catalog yet. See "My dive site isn't listed".

Passing a code to another diver

On a dive site's page the code sits at the top, just above the name. Tap it and it's copied, ready to paste into whatever you're typing.

The share button at the bottom of the page sends a link with the code built into it, like https://divemates.app/dive-sites/EG-BLU. That one opens in a browser, which is handy for the buddy who hasn't installed Divemates yet.

A dive shop's page doesn't print its code on screen, so share the shop instead: the code is right there in the link.
