My dive site isn't listed

Add it yourself without leaving the log. Your dive saves right away, review happens later.

If search can't find your site, add it yourself. Under the results there's a quiet "Can't find your site? Add it", and when nothing matched at all the empty state offers "Add a Dive Site". Either one opens a short form, and your dive carries on as normal.

The site step won't let you continue without a site, which is exactly why that escape hatch is there.

Adding it while you log

On the New Dive Site form:

• Site Name, already filled in with whatever you searched for
• Location, optional. Tap "Use My Location" if you're logging on the boat, or tap the map to drop a pin yourself
• Note for Our Team, optional. Landmarks and the entry point are the ones that actually help us place it

Tap "Use This Site" and you're back on "Where did you dive?" with the site attached, listed as "New site, pending review". Finish the dive the way you always do.

Note: this works with no signal at all. The site rides along with the dive and reaches us when it syncs. See "Can I log dives without a signal?"

Naming a site on an imported dive

Same form, one difference. Reviewing an import usually happens at home weeks later, where your phone's location says nothing useful, so instead of a map pin you pick a Country, and that one is required. Without it, nobody could ever find the site again.

While it waits for review

Nothing about the dive is held back. It saves like any other, and the name you gave shows on it in your logbook straight away. The site just isn't on the Divemates map yet, and other divers can't search for it.

Diving the same place all week? Name it the same way on each dive and they all attach to the same request rather than filing a new one every time. Capitals, accents and stray spaces make no difference.

Note: if you change your mind and pick a catalog site instead, your request quietly disappears, as long as no other dive is still using it.

Once it's approved

We add the site to the catalog with its own site code, and every dive you filed under that name moves onto it on its own. You get a notification when that happens, so you don't have to keep checking.

If we find we already had the place under a different name, we point your dive at that site instead. Same result for you, one less duplicate on the map.

If it doesn't make the catalog

Sometimes there isn't enough to place a site, and it doesn't get added. There's no notification for that one, so the only sign is that the site never appears on the map.

Your dive is untouched either way and keeps the name you gave it. Add it again on your next dive with a note about the landmarks and we'll take another look.
